so in Christ we, though many,
form one body,
and each member belongs to all the others
Scripture: Romans 12:3-7
Context:
The Church is often referred to as "one body", or the "body of Christ". Every human body has a head, each part of the body has a purpose to do different tasks but we all submit to the head. The body cannot function without the head. Jesus is compared to the head, the part which the body all submits to. His believers and followers are compared to the body.
With Christ as the head, we as the body parts preform different tasks. We all are given different abilities and gifts. One of the main purpose of these gifts is to "strive to excel in building up the church" (1 Cor 14:12). Each member has work to do in order that the body functions effectively and working towards the purpose of the church.
Each body part matters, when one human part is suffering or is affected, the whole body also becomes affected and dysfunctions. When one part of our body is sore, the rest of the body will protect, and guard against any more pain. So in time the body part that is affected can heal and become better.
We need to help, protect and bring healing to the church to prevent any part becoming disabled. When the church body becomes united, it magnifies each other's gifts. We all have a responsibility to our body to care for it and keep it as healthy as possible.
